ENGLISH BOWLS YOUTH DEVELOPMENT SCHEME

Full details of the Somerset School of Excellence, to be held at the Bristol Indoor Bowling Club on Saturday 17th January 2009, will shortly be issued to ALL Outdoor and Indoor club secretaries’ within Somerset by the County Coaching Association.  The School is open to ALL young bowlers ( Boys and Girls ) who have not attained the age of 18 years on or by 30th September 2009 . The competition will be run in two sections :-

( a ) Juniors who have attained the age of 8 years but not 15 years on or by 30th September 2009 and

( b ) Seniors who have attained the age of 15 years but not 18 years on or by the 30th September 2009

Information will also be included on special coaching sessions to be held at Yeovil, Taunton Deane and Bristol Indoor Clubs. These are being set up to enable all prospective candidates for the School to have the opportunity to practice the special ‘exercises’ which form the main ‘skill’ part of the event.

It is envisaged that coaches who hold sessions at other indoor greens will also give young bowlers the same opportunity to have practice in the ‘skills exercises’. At the end of the year coaches will be asked to recommend  those young bowlers who should go forward to the School competition in January at Bristol .

It is hoped, as in the past, that parents and grandparents will encourage all young bowlers to participate and feel that it will be worth their while to join in the coaching sessions that are being arranged.
