OFFICIAL RANKINGS FOR SOMERSET COUNTY BOWLS & BOWLERS

The NEW OFFICIAL Somerset County Bowling Association Ranking System

How it works.

Ranking points are earned according to players’ performances in unrestricted Singles and team competitions under the governance of the Somerset County Bowling Association. Ranking points for the winner of a competition in the current season are equal to:

(No of entries in the competition)/(no of players in the team)/(no of bowls per player).

Ranking points for the runner up are half of that of the winner.

Ranking points for losing semi-finalists are half of that of the runner up.

Ranking points for the losing quarter-finalists are half of that of losing semi-finalists.

Ranking points for losers in Round 5 are half of that of losing quarter-finalists.

In team competitions, where substitutes are used during the progress of the competition ranking points earned are apportioned according the number of winning appearances of the players concerned.

"Before the beginning of each season, ranking points accumulated by each player in previous seasons are reduced by 5 ranking points and then by 50%. Only those players with a resulting positive score are carried forward.

2003 was the first season for which ranking points were calculated.

By team is meant pairs, triples or fours.

By unrestricted is meant open for entry by any player affiliated to the SCBA. This therefore includes the Champion of Champions (as all players are eligible to enter their previous season’s club or county championship) but excludes age-related competitions, and anything selected by club selectors (such as league & cup competitions, top club, two fours, etc.).

Currently, the only competitions qualifying are: County Singles, Pairs, Triples, Fours, two woods and County champion of champions. (The National Champion of Champions is excluded because it is under the governance of the EBA.)
