Somerset Bowls Association Job Description  -  Marketing Manager

 

Purpose of the Job

    To promote the game of bowls to the people of Somerset

 

Expenses:         

  Fixed amount payable per annum (as agreed by the SBA Executive Board (EB)) to cover travel

  Other expenses payable, to a ceiling agreed by SBA EB and verified by receipts

 

Reports to:

 

  General Secretary

 

Jobholder’s Team:

  Assistants for some or all of the main activities, in particular:

o   Press and Publicity

o   Publishing the Administrator’s Yearbook

o   Web Site

 

Main Responsibilities:

  Supporting (affiliated and prospective) clubs with ideas, initiatives and promotional materials to attract new players and convert them into club members

  Establishing effective contacts with local media’s news and sports desks

  Collecting, collating and scripting news stories for dissemination to the local media and publication on the web site

  Attracting and cementing the interest and support of local (& national) businesses for advertising and sponsorship

  Maintaining a record of any business conducted by marketing committees

  Gaining EB ratification for any assistants appointed, and managing, developing and co-ordinating them to support the jobholder in discharging these responsibilities

  Consulting widely to generate ideas and plans for development

  Managing these responsibilities within the budget set by the EB

  Reporting quarterly to the EB and annually to the Communications Meeting (each April), Council Meeting (each October) and AGM (each November)

  Number of affiliated clubs and members

  Advertising & Sponsorship income

  Amount of media coverage

  Web site hits

  Number of Public Relations opportunities per disaster

  Number of Tributes per Complaint

  Income and expenditure against budget

  Number of new ideas

  Attendances at meetings

Other close working relationships with:

  Competition Secretary, League Secretary, Match Secretary as suppliers of newsworthy stories

  Local Media

 

Desirable Jobholder Qualities:

  Influential connections in the local business world

  A marketing background (perhaps with a professional qualification)

  Good organizational skills

  Good communication & interpersonal skills

  Familiarity with budgetary processes

  E-mail, telephone and mobile phone facilities

  Personal mobility
